Aaron Copland School of Music Jazz Ensemble

In the final program of our first full concert season, together with Friends of Crestwood Library, Young Musicians of Westchester presented a free concert of American Songbook classics presented by vocalist Danni Wu and an ensemble of graduate students from the Aaron Copland School of Music.  Danni included original compositions along with her interpretation of jazz standards by Hoagy Carmichael, Cole Porter and Irving Berlin accompanied by an ensemble of keyboard, bass, and percussion.  The Copland School’s Jazz Program offers students hands-on experience working under the tutelage of experienced jazz artists.



Black History Month Concert:

Amadi Azikiwe and Mikael Darmanie

On February 11, 2024, an enthusiastically received, well-attended concert featuring Amadi Azikiwe and Mikael Darmanie took place at the New Rochelle Public Library.  The concert, in collaboration with the Library’s celebration of Black History Month, featured music composed by or for Black artists ranging from Duke Ellington’s Black and Tan Fantasy to Ludwig van Beethoven’s Kreutzer Sonata.  

In addition to his growing reputation as a violinist and violist, Amadi is in great demand as a teacher, on faculty at both NYU and the Mannes School of Music.  Mikael is a doctoral candidate at Stony Brook and performs as a soloist, chamber musician and as a member of the Warp Trio, a cutting-edge music ensemble.

Mikael Darmanie

Amadi Azikiwe, violist, violinist and conductor, has been heard in recital in major cities worldwide and has been a guest of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Amadi is a sought-after faculty member at both NYU and the Mannes School of Music. Pianist Mikael Darmanie has performed in diverse settings including The Weill Institute at Carnegie Hall, Rachmaninov Hall in Moscow and is the keyboardist for the band Warp Trio. He is currently finishing his Doctorate at Stony Brook University under the mentorship of Gilbert Kalish.

Young Musicians of Westchester (YMW) presents a concert of global music performed by P’an, a collaborative instrumental ensemble which draws upon traditional musical styles from around the world, including the music of Brazil, Turkey, Cuba, the Middle East, and beyond. The ensemble’s aim is to study and share the beauty of these global musical traditions.  The P’an ensemble is comprised of friends engaged in graduate studies in outstanding New York music university programs including NYU and Mannes School of Music. Their program will also include arrangements of scores composed by Joe Hisaishi for several famous anime films by Hayao Miyazaki including Spirited Away, The Wind Rises and Porco Rosso.

YMW provides opportunities for talented young musicians embarking on professional careers to perform for Westchester audiences.

Young Musicians of Westchester (YMW) presented a concert of classical chamber music performed by students in the Chamber Music Program at Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music. They performed a program featuring works by Bach, Beethoven and Debussy. View the full program here. ArtsFest 2023: Crystalline Chamber Collective

In the first program for YMW’s 2023 – 2024 season, Crystalline Chamber Collective, a New York City-
based ensemble, played an exciting concert at New Rochelle Public Library.  Violist Laura Sacks and
pianist Steven Beck performed music by great women composers: Clara Schumann, Amy Beach, Rebecca
Clarke, and Joan Tower.


April 2, 2023.  

Young Musicians of Westchester held our first public, free admission concert at the New Rochelle Public Library featuring students from Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music who presented chamber music compositions they were studying.  For the audience, the concert was an opportunity to hear classical music performed at a high level at no cost.  Music of Ravel and Bartók, were performed along with works ranging from Baroque to Contemporary composers and an original composition by one of the Purchase students.
