Debut Performances Highlight Chamber Music Concert
On Sunday, April 2, 2023, Young Musicians of Westchester held our first public, free admission concert at the New Rochelle Public Library. The concert featured students from Purchase College’s Conservatory of Music who presented chamber music compositions they’re presently studying.
For some of the musicians, the April 2 concert was their first opportunity to perform before a live audience outside of school settings. For the audience, the concert was an opportunity to hear classical music performed at a high level at no cost.
And for the staff of Young Musicians of Westchester, this event was an affirmation of our mission, with a strong turnout for our first concert offered to the public.
Works by well-known composers Maurice Ravel and Béla Bartók, were performed along with less frequently heard works by Giacomo Merchi and Domenico Gabrielli. The concert also featured the debut of an original work by Purchase student Benjamin Rothenburg. His composition for two guitars, “Rancid Fruit,” was performed in public for the first time. The concert was made possible through a partnership with the New Rochelle Public Library and with the help of the Purchase College Conservatory of Music.
