Balsam Piano Trio Performs Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals

Camille Saint-Saëns’ Carnival of the Animals was brought to life for the enthusiastic second-grade class at Columbus Elementary School in New Rochelle by the Balsam Piano Trio. This interactive program, which took place on November 14, 2023, was made possible through the sponsorship of Young Musicians of Westchester. Hailing from the Aaron Copland School of Music at Queens College, the talented student group engaged the children by encouraging a dance warm-up in their seats, followed by an exciting identification of each animal represented in the musical piece.

Before this performance, the Balsam Trio showcased the same captivating music at the Queens Museum as part of the Classical Kids Fair sponsored by WQXR, New York’s Classical Music Station. The program aligns with the New Rochelle Public Library‘s initiative to involve children from local public schools in interactions with performing artists within the library’s auditorium.

Special thanks are extended to the Library’s Community Liaison team and the dedicated Columbus Elementary School staff for making this event possible. It’s worth noting that Young Musicians of Westchester sponsored the event, making it accessible at no cost to both the Library and the School.
